Zymo research have launched a new plasmid miniprep kit that not only is has the coolest name of any kit on the market but is, the manufacturers claim, the fastest means of plasmid purification available. In this modified alkaline lysis method, the lysis buffer is added directly to the E.coli culture, eliminating the initial pelleting and resuspension steps that can be a pain when processing multiple samples in parallel. A dye in the lysis buffer gives the user visual confirmation of lysis and neutralization. The rest of the procedure involves a silica column-based purification similar to that used in other kits.
