‘Tis the season to shop and prepare for time with our family. Might as well put the job search on hold until the New Year, right? WRONG! Although conventional wisdom states that people do not hire in December, this is false. Many staffing firms have their strongest months in the fourth quarter and this year is no exception.
In many ways, the period from Thanksgiving to Christmas intensifies hiring at many firms. Some companies put hiring freezes into effect while they go through their budgeting processes, while many others are trying to find people to help end the year strong, and have their teams in place and ready for 2011. Now is not the time to take a break from your search – instead, it’s time to ramp up. There is a 3 ½-week sprint from now until December 22 (and some hiring between Christmas and New Year). Those who choose to sit on the sidelines can find themselves behind the hiring curve and may miss some outstanding opportunities.
The holidays are a great time to celebrate, and celebrating is a lot more fun with a new job!
