Bethany College
After completing my undergraduate studies at Washington & Jefferson College, I earned a Ph.D. in Biological Sciences (focused on molecular biology and biochemistry) at Carnegie Mellon University. My postdoctoral research focused on influenza virus transmission at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine with Dr. Seema Lakdawala. In 2019 I transitioned to my current position as Assistant Professor of Biology at Bethany College in West Virginia, where I teach a variety of courses including Microbiology, Genetics and Human Biology. Current areas of study in my lab include 1) mechanisms of airborne virus transmission, 2) disinfection by ultraviolet germicidal irradiation, and 3) application of bacteriophage therapy to treat chronic bacterial infections.

Staying Alive: Tips for Air-Liquid Interface Cultures

What Is Air-Liquid Interface Culture? Long gone are the days where scientists had to rely on 2D cultures of immortalized cell lines to learn principles of human biology. Today, we have a variety of cell culture systems that come closer than ever before to mimicking the structure and function of our body’s organs. One example…
