Hannah Gaimster

Hannah obtained her BSc in Biochemistry from the University of York in 2010. She then obtained her PhD in Genetics from the University of Cambridge in 2014. Since then she has worked as a post-doc in microbiology labs at UEA in Norwich and at Newcastle University. Currently, her work focuses on understanding a novel link between the cell wall and DNA replication in B. subtilis. Better understanding of the processes important in DNA replication may in future help aid new antibiotic discovery. Her previous work has focused on a range of different bacterial species including the pathogens E. coli and S. aureus and the soil-dwelling species P. denitrificans. Her experience spans a wide range of biochemical and genetic approaches- but now currently focuses on using fluorescent microscopy approaches. Hannah enjoys outreach work and used to volunteer for the charity ‘The Brilliant Club’ to teach Key stage 4 pupils about microbiology.
