Imaging large biological samples, such as whole organs or even whole organisms, usually requires sample sectioning and tedious image stitching.
This is cumbersome, particularly when detail and throughput are critical.
The UltraMicroscope Choros is a light sheet system designed for 3D imaging of entire, cleared specimens, even the larger ones.
Building on the trusted foundation of the UltraMicroscope Blaze™, the Choros expands your capabilities by offering a larger sample cuvette and more stage travel range. This increases the imaging volume twofold compared to the UltraMicroscope Blaze with a standard cuvette.
This means you can now study larger samples or more samples in a single run, pushing the boundaries of your research.
Key Microscope Features
- Increased Imaging Capacity. The UltraMicroscope Choros offers a larger cuvette and extended stage travel, enabling the imaging of whole specimens at high resolution.
- Multi-Immersion Objective Lenses. Proprietary MI-Plan objective lenses are designed for light sheet imaging and are compatible with water, aqueous, and organic media for flexible sample preparation.
- Exceptional Image Quality. Delivers sharp and clear images that match the resolution of the UltraMicroscope Blaze.
- Enhanced Throughput. Streamlines workflows by allowing simultaneous imaging of multiple samples with the MACS® UltraMount workflows, ideal for large cohort studies.
- User-Friendly Transition. Fully integrates with the existing LightSpeed mode and the MACS® iQ View – 3D Large Volume software, facilitating easy adoption for current users.
- Automated Imaging Process. Reduces manual intervention with automated sample handling and image processing pipelines, further increasing efficiency in image acquisition.
Image Larger Specimens
The UltraMicroscope Choros features a larger cuvette that allows for imaging of samples as large as a whole mouse with high resolution (30x magnification, obtained with the 12x objective lens plus the 2.5 post-magnifier built into the system).

The system’s proprietary MI-Plan objective lenses are specifically designed for light sheet imaging of large samples, offering long working distances, high numerical apertures, and flat-field correction.
Each lens has multiple dipping caps for optimal imaging in all available imaging media, including water, aqueous, and organic solutions, ensuring research flexibility.
Built on a Legacy of Precision
The Choros shares many of the core features of the Blaze, meaning you don’t have to compromise on hardware and image quality to study large specimens. Shared features include:
- Camera. 4.2 Mpx CMOS camera. 2048 x 2048 pixels. 6.5 µm pixel size.
- Detection path. Up to 7 EM filters. 0.66–2.5 post-mag lenses, motorized.
- Lasers. 5 lines (Beamcombiner; 405–785 nm) or White Light Laser.
- Light Sheet Optics. Triple, bidirectional static light sheets.
Higher Throughput for Large Scale Studies
Image more samples per batch without the need to swap samples manually. The automated imaging options and large cuvette, combined with the high throughput MACS® UltraMount workflows, mean you can image multiple samples together for extremely efficient workflow optimization in large cohort studies, such as preclinical research, developmental biology, and drug testing.
See the power of these high-throughput workflows in the videos below.
Seamless Compatibility
The Choros is fully compatible with Miltenyi Biotec’s pioneering LightSpeed Mode for UltraMicroscope platforms and the MACS iQ View 3D Large Volume software, ensuring researchers in your lab who already use the UltraMicroscope Blaze can transition to the Choros without the need for new training.
