Ewout JN Groen

Ewout is a postdoctoral researcher at the University of Edinburgh studying mechanisms and possible therapies for motor neuron diseases (MND). After obtaining a BSc and MSc in Biomedical Sciences at the University of Utrecht (the Netherlands), Ewout completed a PhD research at the same university on the genetics and biology underlying amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS). Ewout now works in the laboratory of Prof Gillingwater in Edinburgh studying the childhood-onset MND spinal muscular atrophy. By combining studies in several models of the disease we hope to improve our understanding of its causes and find new ways to develop therapies.
