Are you trying to capture a fast imaging event in low light conditions? Well then you need a high-speed, highly sensitive camera like Lumenera’s INFINITY3-3UR microscopy camera. Previously in “To INFINITY and Beyond!” I introduced Lumenera’s INFINITY Fluorescence camera series, which includes the INFINITY3-1URF, INFINITY3-3URF, and INFINITY3-1PF cameras. Here I take a deeper look into their INFINITY3 series camera the INFINITY3-3UR – a high-speed, high sensitivity camera just released this April.

INFINITY3-3UR Sensor

The nitty gritty:

The INFINITY3-3UR has a Sony ICX674 CCD 2.8 megapixel resolution sensor. It can take high quality, full-resolution pictures (1936 x 1456 pixels) at a speed of 53 frames per second (fps). Looking for 1080p60 HD video? The INFINITY3-3UR can also provide this capability.

What this means to you:

This makes Lumenera’s INFINITY3-3URF the fastest USB 3.0 microscopy camera on the market using Sony’s ICX674 sensor. So if your image subject is fast the INFINITY3-3UR and its high-speeds might be your answer. Want to see for yourself? INFINITY3-3UR Capturing

The nitty gritty:

The INFINITY3-3UR uses a high-speed USB 3.0 data interface at 5 Gbits/s, has unique built-in image pre-processing that offloads your computer’s CPU demands, and a 128 MB RAM frame buffer.

What this means to you:

For you this means that the INFINITY3-3UR will reliably deliver images in demanding situations. And, because of the unique memory buffer, no frames are lost while running the camera at the sensor’s maximum output. So you can send streaming video to your computer while simultaneously capturing still images! Additionally, because this camera uses a plug and play USB 3.0 interface you do not need a complicated and expensive frame grabber. This saves you time, hassle and extra cost in setting up your camera.

INFINITY3-3UR Construction

 The nitty gritty:

High-grade components, low-noise electronics and unique thermal management techniques are all used in the INFINITY3-3UR. This, combined with Lumenera’s strong image pre-processing, results in low dark current and read noise.

What this means to you:

The INFINITY3-3UR is a research grade camera and an industry-leader in uncooled low noise. This camera delivers images with very little background noise, with a high sensitivity and a high dynamic range. So, if you find yourself imaging challenging samples under low-light conditions, consider the INFINITY3-3UR.

INFINITY3-3UR Software

The nitty gritty:

The INFINITY3-3UR includes INFINITY ANALYZE and CAPTURE software for advanced camera control, image processing, measurement and annotation. The camera can also be controlled by 3rd party software via the TWAIN interface. Should you choose software other than Lumenera’s INFINITY ANALYZE and CAPTURE software, Lumenera has driver support for other popular microscopy software packages including Media Cybernetics Image-Pro Premier, Molecular Devices MetaMorph, Open Source Micro-Manager and NorPix Streampix. In addition, both Windows and Mac Operating systems are supported.

What this means to you:

You do not have to fool around with compatibility issues between your camera/computer/software. Whether you choose to use Lumenera’s software, or a standby favorite, your software should integrate seamlessly.

If that wasn’t enough to convince you check out some of the beautiful images captured by this camera.

So are you ready to go beyond you current imaging setup and upgrade to the fast and sensitive INFINITY3-3UR camera?
