We have discussed the importance of thank you emails and thank you cards ad nauseum. If you have read this blog more than three or four times, you have undoubtedly heard each of us espouse the importance of the follow-up thank you. As a result, we have received inquiries directly from our readers asking for a sample thank you note. In particular, we have been asked to include ideas of how to reference your skill sets and strengths without sounding desperate or arrogant.

We tried to include a sample that would flow naturally and sincerely when the hiring team reads your note. For example, I might say something like,

“I am particularly excited about utilizing my three years of XYZ experience….”

or,

“I am confident that my proven experience with XYZ will help me contribute to your organization quickly”.

This type of wording allows you to demonstrate how your experience relates directly to the company, as opposed to simply recapping your skills.

Below is a sample letter that could be used in an email and/or hand-written note:

Dear [Contact],

Thank you for taking the time to speak with me today about the [Job Title] position at [Company]. After learning more about your needs for this role, I am more confident than ever that my [**] years of [***] experience as well as [***] experience can add immediate impact and significant value to your team. I remain very interested in this role and look forward to the next steps in the near future.

Please let me know if I can provide any further information you may need.

[Candidate]

As always, you should send an email thank you immediately following the interview/phone screen and send a hand-written note card the next day. Whether you utilize this template or create your own, the important thing to remember is to send out those thank yous!
