Add notes to your PDF files with PDF-Skim

by in Software & Tools
From the Bitesize Bio channel

paper-pile.jpgFirst of all, I should mention that this application is available for Mac users only, so sorry to all you PC users. PDF skim is a software application that allows you to add electronic notes onto PDF files. As the creators of the application say, it’s time to “Stop printing and start skimming”. Since I normally print out scientific articles so that I can make notes on them as I read, this application should result less paper in my office, and the forests should be happier too.

Update: Foxit Reader does the same job on the PC, as I described here.

In this series of posts we are discussing the features of popular reference managers.  This post covers Mendeley, one of the most established reference managers.  I have a special fondness for Mendeley as it is the software that I used to organise all my literature during my PhD. Mendeley is a free reference manager program [...]

How to Create a Heatmap in Excel

Most available heatmap programs I’ve encountered cost too much, come bundled in a huge application, don’t do what I want, or don’t offer enough flexibility. In the previous article on heatmaps, I showed how you can use ASAP utilities to sort color-coded cells using this useful Excel Add-in. What I didn’t tell you is how [...]

Get PDFs ASAP with Pubget

After quite a long hiatus (which included a conference in Hawaii, whoo hoo!), I’m back to highlight a cool and relatively new search engine for scientific literature that is going to make you squeal with glee (ok, it made me squeal at least). I’m assuming that you’re very familiar with how to identify relevant research [...]
